Five screen disguises, not just a black screen

Turn your iPhone into a hidden camera

Eclipse records photo and video while your screen shows something else entirely — a black screen, a web page, a QR scanner, or your own image. Everything stays in a Face ID-locked album on your device.

Free to download · iPhone & Apple Watch · No account · Captures stay on your device

Pick what the screen pretends to be

Most black screen camera apps offer exactly one look: off. Eclipse gives you five. Tap through them — this is the real thing, running here in the page.

Live preview with on-screen controls. The normal way to shoot.

Three ways to fire the shutter

A disguised screen is only half of it. You also need to capture without obviously reaching for your phone.

  • 01

    Tap anywhere

The whole screen is the shutter. No hunting for a button while the screen looks off.

  • 02

    Volume button

Capture without touching the screen at all — the phone can sit flat on a table.

  • 03

    Apple Watch

Start the camera and fire the shutter from your wrist. The phone never comes out.

Everything else it does

Built over four years and still shipping — not a feature list copied off someone else's page.

  • Private album, locked

Captures land in an album inside Eclipse — not your camera roll — behind Face ID. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing syncs anywhere.

  • Photo, video and Live Photo

Front or back camera, stills or video, with Live Photo support when you want the moment either side of the shot.

  • Burst and timed capture

Take several shots per tap, add a delay before the first frame, and set the gap between shots.

  • Silent by design

Optional haptic confirmation instead of a sound, so you know it fired without anyone else knowing.

  • Widgets and Control Center

Launch straight into a mode from the Home Screen, the Lock Screen, or a Control Center toggle — with a disguised widget look if you prefer.

  • Slideshow and sharing

Review captures in a slideshow, then share or export to Photos only when you actually choose to.

Your captures never leave the phone

There is no account, no cloud album and no upload. Photos and videos are written to a private album inside Eclipse, protected by Face ID, and stay on your device until you decide to export or share them.

Read the privacy policy

Use it responsibly

Eclipse exists so you can photograph without a bright screen disturbing the people around you — at a concert, in a gallery, on a street, or while documenting something you have every right to document. Recording laws differ by country, and many places require the consent of the people being recorded. You are responsible for using Eclipse lawfully; please read the Terms of Use.
